Apartamento issue 07

Angelo Cirimele, editor of The Style Press 2011 Book, gave us a rundown of his top ten independent magazines from Europe: here's a sneak peek at two of his choices.

Apartamento (Spain)

While all the other design magazines’ interiors look like showrooms, Apartamento chooses to show inhabited spaces, with books, clothes and toothbrushes to boot. The magazine highlights design and decoration but also the lives that go with it, the people living in these spaces and how they’ve furnished them … this is really something new. Written between Barcelona and Milan, Apartamento also includes travel, landscapes and other subjects of interest met along the way.

Pin-up issue 9, fall/winter 2010/11

Pin-Up (US)

Successfully managing to bring together architecture, interiors and lifestyle in one magazine is no mean feat! Pin-Up transposes its subject throughout the magazine, mixing superimposed images, paper variations, typography and background colours, alternating rhythm and space, empty and full. The magazine is knowledgeable, it is up on history and interested in the future. The plus is that the reader comes out having learnt something, and that’s a rarity nowadays.
